Tottenham have held deadline-day talks over signing Alvaro Morata from Atletico Madrid, Football Insider understands.

The on-loan Juventus striker has been linked with a return to the Premier League during the last days of the January window.

A Spurs source has told Football Insider that club managing director Fabio Paratici has made a last-gasp swoop for Morata, 29, as he looks to strengthen the attack.

Morata initially signed for Atletico on loan in January 2019 before joining permanently six months later, agreeing a contract until 2023.

He joined Juventus, the club where he spent two years between 2014 and 2016, for a second time in September 2020.

The 50-cap Spain international has registered eight goals and five assists in 29 appearances this term.

He has started just six times in Serie A and is likely to slip down the pecking order following the big-money arrival of Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina.

Morata scored 17 goals in 47 appearances in the Premier League with Chelsea across the 2017-18 and 2018-19 campaigns.

Harry Kane is Spurs to scorer this term with 11 goals.

But the England skipper has only recently hit form for Conte's side, who have struggled in front of goal.

Spurs are yet to make any permanent additions to their senior garrison in the January window.

Paratici, who joined Spurs from Juve in June, appears intent on raiding his former club for talent.

Uruguayan midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur and Swedish wide man Dejan Duluveski are also widely reported to be on the brink of swapping Turin for North London.
