Tottenham are firmly in the hunt to sign Mallorca right-back Joan Sastre, according to a report.
Spanish newspaper Marca claim that Spurs and London rivals Crystal Palace have showed more interest than anyone else in landing the defender, 20, this summer.
It is said that Sastre has a release clause currently set at £2.6million that is set to rise to £4.4million at the end of the season.
However, Marca report that Mallorca could be willing to listen to lower offers for a mainstay of their team during what has been an impressive campaign.
Sastre has made 27 appearances this season and weighed in with three goals for the side that are eight points clear at the top of the Spanish third tier.
Football Insider verdict:
Sastre’s blistering speed and ability to defend and attack with equal precision has had the Spanish scouts of the big clubs beating a path to his door. Tottenham are always in the market for young guns with the potential to be stars for their first team and, while it is difficult to know if the Spain Under-19 international is of that calibre, his performances this season have been consistently excellent and he has been a key player for leaders Mallorca. Moreover, his release clause is very low for a club of Tottenham’s financial power.
In other Tottenham news, it can be revealed that the club have ripped up the contract of a defender.
