Kieran Maguire: 'Magnificent' Tottenham in 'prime position' as new NFL deal agreed

Tottenham are in “prime position” to take advantage of the surge in popularity of the NFL in Europe.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about how Spurs have capitalised on America’s biggest sporting export.

ITV announced on Wednesday (17 August) that they have struck a three-year partnership with the NFL.

The UK media giants will broadcast weekly shows and the competition’s showpiece, the Super Bowl.

Also included in the package is the right to air the London Games, which are staged at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs have previously stated their desire to become the home of the NFL in Europe.

Maguire insists that the Londoners have an unassailable headstart when it comes to capitalising on the sport’s increasing popularity in the UK.

Spurs are in position A when it comes to the increasing profile of the NFL outside the US,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“They have delivered a fantastic experience for people who have come to watch the matches in the UK. It’s a magnificent stadium and that gets positive vibes back in the states.

“The players seem to enjoy it as well. I think that is just as important.

So, all of the stakeholders, including the broadcasters and commercial partners, are absolutely delighted with what they have seen from Spurs to date.

“I think it would be very difficult to dislodge Spurs from being in that prime position going forwards.”
