Tottenham insider fears Conte will quit and 'go straight to Man United'

Antonio Conte is “well within his rights” to walk away from Tottenham and join Man United if he isn’t backed this month.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Spurs are yet to sign any players in the January window despite Conte openly wanting a number of new faces in north London.

According to Football.London‘s Alasdair Gold (13 January), players fear the Italian manager could walk in February if he’s not backed in this window.

Conte signed a deal until the summer of 2023 when he was appointed in November, but Wenham insists Conte could walk away if Daniel Levy and Joe Lewis repeat mistakes of the past.

“On one hand, I’m not too concerned, Conte has always been like this,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He has done this in first window interviews when he was at Chelsea and Inter Milan.

“He will not commit himself until he sees the greater project. At the moment, that project has not been set out.

“It doesn’t look like anything is close. He’s got the personality to just walk away.

“I imagine he also has a fair chunk for his £26million Chelsea severance in the bank, so he’s not short of cash.

“There is nothing to stop him doing that. He also won’t struggle for jobs.

“If he walks at the end of the season he will go straight to Man United, where he will be backed.

“If we mess Conte around, like we repeatedly did in Levy and ENIC’s early days at the club, he would be well within his rights to up and leave.”
