Tottenham are confident Harry Kane's future is not closely tied to that of manager Antonio Conte, sources have told Football Insider.

The 29-year-old is into the final 18 months of his Spurs agreement and has been linked with a potential summer departure after coming close to leaving in previous summers.

It was previously thought that Kane could leave if Conte did not commit to extending his own agreement, which expires at the end of this season.

But Spurs do not believe that is any longer the case and are confident Kane would either stay, or extend his own deal, even if the Italian leaves.

It is, sources say, a "huge" boost given how close Kane came to leave for Man City in the summer of 2021 when they admitted to submitting four bids for him.

That possibility is growing notwithstanding Conte's health issues, which will see him miss Sunday's Premier League clash against West Ham.

Conte is convalescing at his family home in Italy after a post-operation check in his homeland on Wednesday.

Spurs and Conte held preliminary talks over a new deal at the end of last year but they have gone no further than that.

Whispers are now growing that the Italian will leave the London giants at the end of the season with neither party especially enthusiastic about committing to a huge-money extension.

Kane is focused on beating Alan Shearer's Premier League scoring record - ruling out a move overseas for now.

Spurs are keen to tie Kane to a mega-money new contract which will keep him at his boyhood club for the remainder of his career.

The Lilywhites are yet to reach an agreement with the England captain but are hopeful a deal can be struck.
