Tottenham key man shortlisted by Barcelona (not Alli or Kane) - report

By Dominic Toner

Barcelona have identified Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino as the potential future successor of their current boss Luis Enrique, according to a report.

The Daily Star claim that the Spanish giants have drawn together a shortlist of potential new managers and Pochettino is one of them.

The report details that the 44-year-old has impressed Barcelona during his spell at White Hart Lane.

It is understood that Enrique is yet to decide whether he will remain at the Camp Nou beyond this season and Barcelona could move for Pochettino when he leaves.

Pochettino is regarded as one of the best young managers in Europe and has enjoyed great success with Spurs.

The north London club have emerged into a top side in the Premier League during his reign and have been playing an attractive style of attacking football.

The Argentinian started his managerial campaign in Spain with Espanyol, before a brief spell with Southampton in the Premier League.

He has gone on to transform Spurs since his arrival in 2014 and has assembled an exciting young squad, with the likes of English duo Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

Pochettino is currently set to stay with Spurs until 2021 after agreeing a new contract in May, but could be offered the chance to work with the world’s best at Barcelona.

Football Insider verdict:

Spurs should resist any attempts from Barcelona to take their manager Pochettino. The Londoners are currently third-placed in the Premier League and look a formidable outfit, but that is mostly down to the work of their manager. Pochettino has enjoyed a great transfer policy during his time and purchased the likes of Toby Alderweireld and Alli. He has also been keen to introduce the club’s youngsters and is a massive hit with supporters. Spurs are hopeful of competing at the top-end of the Premier League and that would become even more difficult if they lose their mastermind Pochettino.

In other Tottenham transfer news, the club are eyeing a prolific goalscorer from the Bundesliga.
