Tottenham may 'break the bank' to sign Meslier from Leeds after key update - pundit
Tottenham would have to "break the bank" to sign a replacement for Hugo Lloris this summer, according to Alex McLeish.
The former Premier League boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Spurs could target Leeds United's Illan Meslier as a potential long-term option.
As revealed by Football Insider, Lloris is planning to stay at Spurs past the summer despite strong interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
The 34-year-old's current terms expire in the summer of 2022.
McLeish admitted Spurs would have to splash the cash to sign a replacement for the shot-stopper.
He namedropped Leeds ace Meslier, 21, as a potential target in the future.
McLeish told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: "It's not easy to lose Lloris and find a goalkeeper of that level immediately, without paying top dollar. Some of the costs of goalkeepers over very recent years...
"He's a hugely consistent goalie, I wouldn't rate him the best in the world. I do think there are better out there.
"Would Spurs have to break the bank and go for a Meslier or someone like that? Leeds would probably break the bank to keep him. That's the sort of levels we're talking about now.
"For a rebuild in terms of goalkeepers, Harry Kanes, it's a tough one being a Spurs fan."
Lloris is Spurs' captain and has made 372 appearances for the club to date.
He has not missed a single minute of the Lilywhites' league campaign this term.
Meanwhile, Meslier has kept 11 clean sheets in 35 appearances for Leeds in his debut season in the Premier League.
