Tottenham 'million miles ahead' of Newcastle after 'incredible' £714m reveal - Robinson

Tottenham are “a million miles ahead” of Newcastle United and will not be worried by their takeover.

That is the view of ex-Spurs and England number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about how the takeover news was likely received by his former employers.

The Magpies now have the wealthiest owners in world football following a PIF-backed takeover of the club last Thursday.

It brings an end to a period of stagnation both on and off the pitch under the ownership of Mike Ashley.

As relayed by Kieran Maguire on Twitter, Tottenham collected £714million more than Newcastle in commercial income during Ashley’s reign.

The figure demonstrates the exponential growth of Spurs and the superiority of their revenue model.

When asked by Football Insider if Spurs would now be worried about Newcastle competing at the top level, Robinson said:

“I don’t think Tottenham will be worried about it. At the end of the day, there is not much they can do.

“The amount of money that has come into Newcastle is incredible. It is now a case of how it is used. It is a very interesting one to watch as an outsider looking in. It will not happen overnight though.

“There are a lot of ifs and buts because there is a lot that needs changing an Newcastle, both on and off the pitch.

“From Tottenham’s point of view, they are a million miles ahead at the moment. Both in terms of their playing squad and their revenue model. Tottenham’s squad, stadium and training ground are all far superior.

“Don’t get me wrong though, Newcastle will be there one day.”
