Sources: Tottenham star Lucas Moura wants to quit on free after last-gasp offer
Tottenham star Lucas Moura is keen to run down his contract and leave on a free transfer after deadline-day Newcastle United and Aston Villa offers were rejected, sources have told Football Insider.
Villa also approached Tottenham to enquire about taking Moura for the rest of the season.
Both offers were knocked back as Spurs regard Moura as a key squad player who will get plenty of match minutes this season.
The player’s stance is that he is out of contract at the end of the season and keen to explore other opportunities if he remains on the fringes.
That would be a blow to Tottenham, who would not want to lose a player they signed for £25million in January 2018 for nothing.

Moura’s current deal runs until the summer of 2023 although it does include an option for a further 12 months.
He has made 204 appearances in all competitions for Spurs, which have yielded 38 goals and 27 assists.
The Brazilian attacker is a huge favourite with supporters who admire not only his matchwinning capabilities but also his commitment and spirit.
He has missed the last two Spurs matches with a calf injury, but has had only 12 minutes of league action this season after losing his place to Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison.
Moura, who has 35 caps for Brazil, began his career at Sao Paulo before a move Paris Saint-Germain in 2013.
He joined Spurs in 2018 and wrote his name into the club’s folklore with a famous hat-trick against Ajax to take them to the Champions League final in 2019.
