With the Premier League season over for another year, Tottenham’s attentions will now turn to the transfer window as they look to build on what was a season of progress.
While silverware was lacking on the final day of the campaign there can be few doubts over the growth that Spurs underwent, building on season’s of disappointing European displays and putting in an impressive performance on the continent.
With Champions League football guaranteed for next season there needs to be improvements made in the quality in depth of the senior side, and with some senior stars bound to leave north London, more recruits will be needed to fill the gaps created.
Toby Alderweireld is perhaps the most notable name on the chopping block, and Davinson Sanchez has taken his place in the starting XI, leaving just the need for an adequate back up.
The club could have just that in the shape of Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson, who Sky Sports reporter Kieth Downie claims, via his personal Twitter account, will be on the move this summer as a host of Premier League sides hunt his signing – but it must be Spurs who sink their rivals’ hopes.
That’ll be Ben Gibson’s last game for Boro. He’s got a clutch of Premier League clubs looking to sign him this summer. Reckon he’d have probably stayed if Boro had gone up.

The 25-year-old is highly rated, having been called up for the England squad in the past, but after dropping out of the top flight last season, chose to remain loyal to his boyhood club and try to get them out of the Championship at the first time of asking – a task which came to an end with their play-off defeat to Aston Villa.
Now it looks as though he his destined for the exit and Spurs, with their contingency of English stars, could be the perfect destination for Gibson to take his game to the next level.
With Jan Vertonghen and Sanchez number one and two at the heart of defence, he would face a tough task to become a regular starter, but his quality at back up would see Spurs benefit greatly.
In other Tottenham news, Gary Lineker has issued a stark warning to Daniel Levy ahead of the summer.
