Tottenham news: Expert issues 'huge' transfer claim as new details emerge
Tottenham could challenge Man City and Liverpool next season if Antonio Conte is given sufficient funds in this summer’s transfer window, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Spurs’ potent attack could give them the edge over their table-topping rivals.
Tottenham claimed a 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday (7 May) – with Luis Diaz pegging the visitors back after Heung-min Son’s opener.
Spurs have claimed eight points against the Premier League’s top two sides this season – more than any other club.
Conte’s side sit fifth but can enhance their chances of Champions League qualification with a win against Arsenal on Thursday (12 May).
Whelan suggested the Italian’s transfer acumen has already borne fruit with the arrivals of Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur.

“There’s no doubt they can challenge those top two clubs with the right business this summer,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“Look at that front three. Look at the players sitting on the bench – they’ve got serious quality.
“They can compete, for sure. They’ve added two top players from Juventus in Kulusevski and Bentancur. That’s just proof of Conte’s influence.
“They need to go further now. He wants these funds to really stamp his authority on this Tottenham side. If he does that, it could be exciting, huge.
“On their day, they can really compete with Man City and Liverpool – and we’ve seen that this season.”
Man City lead Liverpool by three points atop the Premier League.
Conte won the English title with Chelsea during the 2016-17 season.
