Mauricio Pochettino would jump at the chance to rejoin Tottenham this summer if Antonio Conte is lured away, Football Insider understands.

The Argentine, 50, is expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season following their failure to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

A source with knowledge of Pochettino's situation has told Football Insider that the manager would "love" to make a romantic return to Spurs.

He retains a great affection for the club and also remains a huge favourite among supporters after transforming the club's fortunes during his five-and-a-half years as manager.

Intriguingly, Pochettino has also remained in regular contact with Daniel Levy despite the nature of his dismissal in November 2019.

That prompted the appointment of Jose Mourinho and Spurs have struggled to reach the same heights in the subsequent three-year period.

Conte has made an impact since replacing Nuno Espirito Santo in November but he was only appointed on an 18-month deal and this summer is regarded as a crossroads in his spell at the club.

Those who know Conte well are in no doubt he could quit as manager if he does not get the backing in this summer's market that he is seeking.

PSG are among the clubs eager to lure the former Chelsea, Juventus, Inter Milan and Italy boss to the Continent.

It could mean what would be a remarkable job swap, with Pochettino heading back to north London and Conte to the French capital.

The Argentine has a contract with PSG until the summer of 2023 after being appointed initially in January 2021.
