COMMENT

Tottenham moved to within one point of fourth-placed Liverpool in the Premier League table with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Stoke City at Wembley Stadium.

Spurs took the lead on 21 minutes when Stoke defender Ryan Shawcross converted Son Heung-min's cross into his own net, after it had taken a deflection of Kurt Zouma.

Harry Kane missed a great chance to put Spurs 2-0 ahead before half-time after being put through by Son. Son then made it 2-0 after the break with a clinical finish after a fine pass by Dele Alli.

Kane then made up for his earlier miss with a powerful header from left-back Ben Davies' cross and then drilled home a fourth to make it three goals in 12 second-half minutes as the hosts ran riot.

Son then played in Christian Eriksen who made it 5-0, before Shawcross made up for his earlier error by pulling one back for the Potters.

Spurs have moved above Arsenal into fifth place in the Premier League table, with their north London rivals in action tomorrow against Southampton.

Goalkeeper and defenders

Hugo Lloris (Goalkeeper) - 6: Didn't really have a lot to do as Spurs ran riot in the second half at Wembley. Did make one outstanding save to deny Stoke forward Xherdan Shaqiri, but should have done better for the goal by Shawcross.

Kieran Trippier (Right-back) - 4: An afternoon to forget for the full-back, didn't offer much, offensively or defensively.

Eric Dier (Centre-back) - 6: A decent performance, put a few good tackles in and restricted Stoke to limited chances. Will be frustrated Spurs couldn't keep a clean sheet.

Jan Vertonghen (Centre-back) - 6: Solid, didn't have a lot to do as Spurs dominated possession in midfield and attack, but a made a few good tackles when called upon.

Ben Davies (Left-back)- 7: Got forward a few times and provided an excellent cross for the first goal by Harry Kane. Looked okay defensively. A much-improved performance from his display against Watford last week.

Midfielders

Mousa Dembele (Centre-Midfielder) - 6: A decent performance, put a few solid tackles in, but was also booked. The Belgian international tested Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland with a 25-yard effort in the first half.

Harry Winks (Centre-Midfielder) - 7: The 21-year-old England international had a good game in the middle of the park. Played a key role in the third goal with a fine pass to Dele Alli.

Forwards

Christian Eriksen (Attacking midfielder) - 7: A good performance from the attacking midfielder who has been much-criticised recently. Brilliant finish into the bottom corner for the fifth. Forced an outstanding save from Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland late on.

Dele Alli (Attacking midfielder) - 4: A good pass for Son's goals but overall a disappointing display from the England international. Poor first touch, gave the ball away far too often in midfield. Was replaced by Erik Lamela midway through the second half.

Son Heung-min (Attacking midfielder) - 9: Brilliant. The 25-year-old ran the show for Tottenham and got the goal his man-of-the-match performance deserved with an emphatic low finish.

Harry Kane (Centre-forward) - 8: Missed a great chance to put Spurs 2-0 in the first half, but made up for it with two goals after the break. A great header at the far post to make it 3-0, before a clinical finish.

Substitutes

Erik Lamela (Attacking midfielder on for Dele Alli, 67 minutes) - 6: Got a good reception from the Spurs fans when he replaced the disappointing Dele Alli and played well. Pushing for his first start since returning form injury.

Moussa Sissoko (Centre-midfielder on for Harry Winks, 78 minutes) - 5: Didn't really have much time to make an impact when he replaced Harry Winks.

Fernando Llorente (Striker on for Son Heung-min, 86 minutes) - n/a: Can't really judge his performance, Spurs were already out of sight by the time he came off the bench.
