Tottenham are considering a summer move for Bournemouth hitman Joshua King, according to a report.
The Mirror claim that the north London club have added the 25-year-old attacker to their summer shortlist, after a stunning run of goalscoring form in the Premier League.
The physically imposing King has scored 15 goals for Bournemouth this season, of which 13 goals, including a hat-trick against West Ham, have come since the start of the year.
His goalscoring haul since the new year is bettered by just two Premier League stars, Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane, a run of form which has seen him emerge on Tottenham’s summer radar.
It is reported that the Norway international, who is under contract at Bournemouth until the summer of 2020, could fetch a fee worth at least £15million.
Tottenham are likely to continue their pursuit of a striker this summer, in an attempt to ease the goalscoring burden off current top scorer, Kane.
Mauricio Pochettino made a similar move last summer in bringing Vincent Janssen to the club, but the Dutchman has struggled to live up to expectation, and leaves Pochettino considering further reinforcements.
Janssen has netted just twice from his 24 Premier League appearances this season.
Tottenham have seen no shortage of goals in other areas of the field, however, with Dele Alli and Son Heung-Min also chipping in on a regular basis.
But if Kane were to be sidelined with injury for an extended period, Tottenham do not have enough options at their disposal to perform in the same role, and at the same level as the England star.
Football Insider verdict
There is no denying that man mountain King has been in excellent form for Bournemouth of late, and he has proven to be one of the most prolific strikers in the Premier League this year, but Tottenham fans are not likely to greet the reported interest with much enthusiasm. Given their current domestic and European ambitions, Pochettino and Tottenham can no doubt set the bar much higher than the Bournemouth man, despite his current form. Poch took a £17million gamble on Janssen last summer and it hasn’t had the desired effect. With King likely to fetch at least £15million, he will be making a similar gamble this summer, and he shouldn’t take such a risk.
