Tottenham are just one of a number of European heavyweights interested in signing Besiktas midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup, according to a report.
The Express claim that the former Arsenal midfielder is high on the shortlist of Mauricio Pochettino, with £12million said to be enough to see the 24-year-old move to north London.
However, it is believed that Tottenham are not the only north London club interested, with Arsenal also keen to re-sign the Turkey international five years after selling him.
Roma and Sevilla are also said to be keen in the Holland-born midfielder, who has made a total of 29 league and cup appearances this season for the reigning Turkish champions.
Wearing the captain’s armband for 20 of those, Ozyakup has scored three times as well as providing five assists this season, and could be brought to White Hart Lane in a cut-price deal.
The 25-time international has a contract with Besiktas until the summer of 2018, but could be allowed to leave now in order to prevent losing him on a free transfer in a year’s time.
Spurs are likely to be looking for a new central midfielder, with only Harry Winks, Moussa Dembele, Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama available to Pochettino.
Football Insider verdict:
Choosing Spurs over Arsenal will prove how much Pochettino has done for Spurs, and it could prove to be the start of a shift in the transfer market. With Arsenal always in the Champions League, they have managed to persuade the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez to move to north London, while Spurs have gone for players with less star power. But with Arsenal now sixth and Spurs in second, that could all change. With depth needed ahead of a season that is likely to see Spurs fight in four different competitions, Ozyakup could prove a crucial addition.
