Tottenham will find out within hours if they will be able to sign Serge Aurier from Paris Saint-Germain before the transfer window shuts, according to a report.
French sports newspaper L’Equipe claimed early on Wednesday morning that Spurs are still waiting on the outcome of his application for a UK visa and work permit.
It is said that the club and player had expected to discover on Tuesday if it had been successful but the timing of the decision has now been delayed until 12pm on Wednesday.
L’Equipe report that Aurier has agreed the terms of a five-year contract with Tottenham and that all the finances of the transfer are settled as they wait to rush through a £23million move.
But a deal is not yet done as the defender requires special paperwork to enter the country, pending a decision being made public about his appeal against an assault conviction.
If Aurier is successful in getting the go-ahead to play in England, he will be imminently announced as a new Spurs signing.
Football Insider verdict:
Aurier has been earmarked to fill the gap in the Tottenham team left by Kyle Walker when he joined Manchester City earlier in the window. There remain some hurdles for Spurs to leap, but this is a deal that will improve the team as the Ivorian is ideally suited to the three-man centre-back system Mauricio Pochettino appears to have in mind this season. Like Walker, Aurier’s game is based upon explosive speed and the ability to surge up and down the right flank. He is a huge attacking asset and has the pace to recover quickly when he is caught upfield. The 24-year-old is entering his peak years and can take Spurs to the next level.
