Tottenham will have to take a “massive loss” if they are to sell one-time club-record signing Davinson Sanchez, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England defender claimed the 24-year-old’s “clumsy” decision making and ability on the ball is the reason why Spurs want to offload him.

As first revealed by Football Insider Tottenham are preparing to sell Sanchez no matter the identity of the new manager.

It is understood the club’s recruitment team are compiling a shortlist of centre-back targets to replace the Colombian.

Sanchez arrived in north London from Ajax for a club-record fee at the time of £42million.

“It’s going to be a massive loss financially,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“It’s a shame, they paid so much money for him.

“I remember when he played for Ajax and he played against Manchester United in the Europa League final and he was outstanding. Nothing got past him, he was quick.

“I still rate him as a defender, he’s got the pace. He’s not very good on the ball though, that’s what’s going to let him down.

“He’s got the physical presence and the pace but sometimes his decision making is quite clumsy with his defending.

“Maybe he’s one they’ll try and get rid of and create funds for another centre-back.”

Sanchez has played 31 times across all competitions this season but has not featured in any of their last five fixtures.

He has been an unused substitute in all five of Ryan Mason’s games in interim charge.
