Tottenham: Souza exit seems inevitable after agreement all but sealed

Tottenham Hotspur left-back Souza is surely set to leave the club this summer as Andy Robertson’s impending arrival creates more competition for minutes.

Souza was a surprise arrival at Tottenham in the January window as they sealed a £13million deal for his services from Santos.

The 19-year-old joined Spurs with rave reviews from Brazil, but struggled for regular game time in the second half of the campaign.

Roberto De Zerbi did not offer him any game time following his March appointment, and the Italian is now looking to bolster his left-back options this summer.

Outgoing Liverpool left-back Robertson is a top transfer target for Tottenham, with Souza seemingly due to be loaned out as soon as the Scot arrives in North London.

Andy Robertson to push Souza down Tottenham left-back pecking order

Robertson was close to joining Tottenham in January, but chose to see out the season at Liverpool before leaving after a very successful nine years on Merseyside.

Souza was instead signed to provide cover to Destiny Udogie, but was afforded less than two full 90 minutes of game time and saw De Zerbi choose to start Djed Spence at left-back over him.

His last appearance for the club came away at Tottenham as he started on the right wing, but it certainly seems unlikely that he will be trusted to play further forward regularly next season.

Souza is set to slip even further down the pecking order at left-back, with new reports claiming that Robertson is close to joining Spurs after agreeing personal terms.

His arrival could push Souza out, but Tottenham are likely to only agree to a loan away, rather than a permanent sale, after just four months at the club.

Who else could leave Spurs this summer?

De Zerbi is set to overhaul his squad in search of more progress next season, following some improved performances towards the end of 2025-26.

Sources have exclusively told Football Insider that Cristian Romero is set to leave Spurs after the drama that saw him upset fans for returning to Argentina as his teammates battled relegation last week.

Fellow centre-back Radu Dragusin has been linked with an exit too, while Yves Bissouma has not been offered a new contract and so looks set to leave next month.
