Tottenham stars 'annoyed' with Conte after behind-the-scenes - Mills

The Tottenham squad will be “annoyed with” Antonio Conte after he banned tomato ketchup and mayonnaise from the training ground, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Man City and England full-back suggested the move was a pointless powerplay from the new Spurs boss and stars could go behind his back to get their favourite sauces.

The Athletic reported (November 10) Conte feels some of his squad are overweight and has banned ketchup and mayonnaise as a result.

It is also claimed the Italian has cut down on fruit juices and cooking with butter and oil and will encourage his players to eat more fruit instead.

“It can annoy players at times,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“What’s the reason behind it? If I want ketchup do I play any differently?

“Sometimes it’s just a fact of saying ‘I’m in charge, you’re now under my authority. You have to do what I say’.

“I’m not sure that’s always the best way to do things but that’s the way he’s gone down.

“He’s just asserting his authority, that’s what it comes down to.

“We know he’s a good manager, we know his fitness regime is intense. Is ketchup and mayonnaise going to make a difference? No, is the answer. Either way.

“If players want it, they will eat what they have to at the training ground and go home and eat what they want.

“You can’t stop them stopping at a service station or a shop on the way home to get a bag of sweets or some ketchup.

“It’s trying to lay down the law and say ‘This is what they are doing’.”
