Martinez may pull dramatic Tottenham U-turn after talks update - pundit

Lautaro Martinez is “better than Tottenham” and could pull a late U-turn after the latest round of transfer talks.

So says ex-Premier League hitman Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 23-year-old Inter Milan striker.

This site first broke news on 9 August that the Argentinian has told friends he has his “heart set” on a move to Spurs.

Tottenham have held extensive talks over a deal and are hopeful an agreement can be reached, as revealed by Football Insider on 10 August, with discussions advancing.

But Agbonlahor predicts that the attacker will have a late change of heart and pivot away from a move to North London.

“It is smart to capitalise on that deal,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“But why would Martinez want to come from Champions League football and winning Serie A to playing in the Conference League for Spurs?

“I just don’t think it will happen in the end. Maybe the club wants to sell him because of financial difficulties.

“But I think, in the end, the player will want to hold out for a better club that suits his talent.

“He is better than Spurs, he’s a top, top striker. If I was Man City or someone like that, I’d be looking to sign him.”

Martinez netted 17 goals and laid on 10 assists as Inter won Serie A for the first time in over a decade last term.

His Inter side are currently embroiled in financial turmoil as their Chinese owners look to sell the club.
