Tottenham tipped to sign centre-back amid Dier 'crisis' - Robinson

Tottenham will look to sign another centre-half this summer to improve competition for places.

That is according to former White Hart Lane number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the “susceptible” form of Eric Dier, 27, and Davinson Sanchez, 24, this year.

Jose Mourinho’s side have only conceded one goal since Toby Alderweireld replaced Dier in the Premier League starting XI three games ago.

Spurs failed to keep clean sheets in any of the previous six league fixtures in which Dier started at the back.

As quoted by the Guardian, Mourinho said the England international was suffering from a “crisis of confidence”, before settling on Sanchez and Alderweireld as his preferred centre-back pairing.

When asked whether Dier should be concerned about his recent omission from the side, Robinson told Football Insider: “I still think Jose is a big fan of Dier’s.

“I think he will be a part of the plans moving forward even though I think they will sign another centre-half in the summer.

“The preferred partnership right now is Sanchez and Alderweireld but Dier’s future should not be in any doubt whatsoever. He has probably had his best season at Spurs. He started off the season very well and was a regular starter.

“Yes, he has looked susceptible of late but so has Davinson Sanchez. I think another centre-half would help, and competition for places is always a good thing.”
