Portuguese giants Benfica are interested in signing Tottenham midfielder Nabil Bentaleb on a season-long loan, according to a report.
This comes just 12 months after the Algeria international signed a new five-year deal, which tied him to White Hart Lane until 2020.
Portuguese sports newspaper Record are now reporting that Bentaleb has been offered to the Portuguese Champions, after the 21-year-old has fallen down the pecking order in North London.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino is set to axe deadwood this summer, as he looks to add proven Champions League quality to his squad.
A well-placed Tottenham source has told Football Insider that wingers Nacer Chadli and Clinton N’Jie, midfielder Nabil Bentaleb, playmaker Alex Pritchard, central midfielder Tom Carroll, defender Federico Fazio and goalkeeper Michael Vorm are all surplus to requirements under Pochettino.
Bentaleb is currently behind the likes of Eric Dier, Ryan Mason, Moussa Dembele and Tom Carroll, and with the arrival of combative Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama, he is unlikely to feature much for Spurs this season.
Bentaleb was on the fringes last season and missed three months with an ankle injury suffered in August. He was also absent for the title run-in with knee ligament damage. In total, he made just five Premier league appearances.
In other Tottenham transfer news, Spurs are close to finalising a move for this striker.
