Paul Robinson has told Tottenham not to include a £12million option to buy in a potential loan deal for Japhet Tanganga.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one suggested the 23-year-old could be worth "a lot more money" in 12 months time.

Tanganga struggled for game time in the 2021-22 campaign, in part due to a knee injury sustained at the end of January.

According to The Athletic‘s Charlie Eccleshare (8 July), Bournemouth, AC Milan and Napoli are interested in taking the defender on loan.

Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, via The Spurs Web (20 July), claimed AC Milan hope to insert a purchase clause in the deal worth around £12million.

Tangana has three years remaining on his contract in north London.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the latest, Robinson said: "AC Milan would be a fantastic move for the player.

"We have seen how well other English players have done in Serie A.

"For Spurs to include a £12million option to buy would be underselling Tanganga, in all honesty.

"I think he would become a better player after 12 months in Italy. I don't think Spurs should include an option to buy unless it is an extremely high fee.

"Let's be honest, if he has a great season and they want to buy him he will be worth a lot more than £12million. That is something that needs to be factored into the deal.

"A lot of other clubs will look at him if he has a great season. He will be worth a lot more than £12million. Make them pay top price."
