Paul Robinson has told Tottenham to think twice before making a move for Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one said Antonio Conte's side should instead target Leeds United's Illan Meslier, 22.

Spurs are monitoring a number of goalkeepers as they search for Hugo Lloris' long-term successor.

Tottenham

According to The Telegraph (8 January), Tottenham are tracking Brentford shot-stopper David Raya.

The 27-year-old has impressed for the Bees this season.

Robinson revealed Raya was his boot boy when the pair were together at Blackburn Rovers.

"He was my boot boy," he told Football Insider. "He is a very good goalkeeper.

"But, there is a very fine line between a world-class goalkeeper and a very good goalkeeper though.

"I think he is a very good goalkeeper. He is in the same bracket as Illan Meslier.

"Meslier has more potential because he is younger. He could become world-class. That is why I think Meslier should be the priority. He is growing in stature.

Leeds United

"Raya is not world-class. He is doing an excellent job at Brentford but it remains to be seen whether he could take that next step. Playing for Brentford is not the same as playing for Tottenham week in, week out.

"I think Meslier could deal with that pressure. I say go out and get Meslier. He is getting better all of the time."
