Tottenham are keeping tabs on Arsenal’s Calum Chambers, according to a report.
The Daily Mail reports that Mauricio Pochettino is monitoring Chambers and considering what would be an audacious swoop, as he looks to make reinforcements to his defence for next season.
Chambers worked with Pochettino when they were at Southampton before they both moved to north London with the promising centre-back being sold for a fee worth up to £16million.
The 22-year-old has failed to make much of an impression in his time at the Emirates and is currently on a season-long loan at Middlesbrough.
Chambers did make one appearance under Arsene Wenger before his August switch to Boro when he played 90 minutes in the first game of the season against Liverpool.
The centre-back, who can also play on the right side of a back four, got himself on the scoresheet but eventually saw his side succumb to a 4-3 defeat.
Since joining Arsenal, Chambers has made 59 appearances for the club in all competitions and fans would not welcome him moving to their bitter rivals.
During his temporary spell at the Riverside, Chambers has been a key part of the Boro defence up until a recent foot injury.
Chambers has made 18 appearances for the north east club but they are currently without a manager and look destined to be relegated back to the Championship after failing to win any of their last 11 league outings.
Football Insider Verdict
Pochettino looks as though he is in the market to add strength in depth to all areas of his squad in the summer and the purchase of Chambers would definitely be a solid investment. He’s played well for Boro this season and as he previously worked with the Argentine boss at Southampton then it shouldn’t take too long for him to get himself used to different training methods and tactics. Making a move for an Arsenal player perhaps isn’t something that will go down well with the supporters but if Chambers can make a name for himself for Spurs then there’s no doubt that those same fans will be rubbing it in the faces of their fierce rivals.
