Robinson: Tottenham could be about to make big mistake amid Rodon transfer update via Nixon

Tottenham would be mad to consider selling Joe Rodon this summer.

That is according to ex-Spurs shot-stopper Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 23-year-old Welsh centre-back.

The Sun‘s Alan Nixon reported on 4th July that Brighton want to sign Rodon to replace Ben White if he completes his mooted switch to Arsenal.

Rodon, who has four years remaining on his contract, signed for Spurs last summer and featured 19 times in total across 2020-21.

Robinson insists that the 18-cap international has potential and his exit should not be sanctioned by Spurs.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “I think that Spurs would do well to keep hold of him. He’s been their best centre-half this season.

“They’ve obviously had trouble in that position but at times when Sanchez, Dier and Alderweireld haven’t performed, the manager’s turned to Rodon and he’s done really well.

“As a youngster, I think he shows a lot of potential. He’s only just signed and there’s no reason at all for Spurs to let him go. He’s not reached anywhere near his potential yet.

“Nuno will want three centre-halves and two wing-backs. So he’s one that I’d definitely keep hold of.

“If Alderweireld and Rodon are leaving, Dier and Sanchez aren’t good enough, so suddenly you’ve got no centre-halves when you need three of them.

Alderweireld is, according to the Athletic on 2nd July, keen to leave Spurs.

It is claimed that the club will not block his exit if they receive a respectable offer.
