Tottenham striker picks up where he left off with impressive goal-scoring display

By Amir Mir

Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen scored his first goal for the club during their 3-1 pre-season friendly win over Rotherham.

The 22-year-old made a £18.8million switch from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar earlier this month on the back of his 27-goal 2015-16 Eredivisie campaign.

The Dutch international picked up where he left off by scoring in the win against the Championship side on Thursday afternoon.

The highly-rated forward tucked in a neat finish inside the box after a darting run from full-back Kieran Tripper to level the scores.

Tottenham had fallen behind to Danny Ward’s opener, but goals from Jansen, and youngsters Shayon Harrison and Marcus Edwards secured victory for the hosts at Hotspur Way.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have the challenge of Champions League football this season, but have the golden boot winners of the 2015-16 Premier League and Eredivisie season at their disposal.

Fellow new signing Victor Wanyama, midfielder Ryan Mason and wingers, Nacer Chadli and Heung-min Son all participated as they looked to boost up their fitness for the forthcoming Premier League season.

Spurs will participate in the International Champions Cup where they will play European giants Atletico Madrid and Juventus on their pre-season tour of Australia.

They begin their Premier League campaign at Everton on August 13 as they look to add to their third place finish last season.
