Transfer expert: £34m-rated January target prefers Arsenal to Liverpool

By Will Butcher

Julian Draxler would prefer a move to Arsenal over Liverpool, according to transfer expert Emanuele Giulianelli.

The Sun claimed in the summer that Arsenal were looking at signing the attacker, and Giulianelli says they’re still interested.

Gazzetta Dello Sport reporter Giulianelli also claimed on his personal Twitter account that the 23-year-old playmaker would prefer a move to the Emirates despite interest from Liverpool and French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

However, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will pay what Wolfsburg want and Giulianelli claims PSG are favourites as they’ll pay the asking price.

The former Schalke midfielder requested to leave the Volkswagen Arena in the summer, but the club refused to let him go.

Wolfsburg’s number 10 has failed to provide the creative spark for the German outfit during the 2016-17 campaign, providing just two assists in 13 games and failing to find the back of the net.

And, according to reports, he’s been told that he can leave and doesn’t feature in Wolfsburg’s future plans.

Arsenal could still look to move for the attacker, as they look to strengthen their team ahead of the Premier League run in as well as the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Football Insider verdict:

Signing Draxler would be one of the biggest deals of the January transfer window. Despite a poor campaign so far this time round, Draxler’s talent is undoubted and would improve the Gunners in many ways. His versatility to play out wide or in behind a striker will give Wenger options as they look to compete on three fronts after Christmas. The Gunners must move quickly if they are to sign the Euro 2016 star, as PSG are ready and willing to pay the price for him. With Mesut Ozil currently relied upon to create and orchestrate Arsenal’s attacks, some of the weight on his shoulders would be relieved with the signing of his German teammate. Fans will be hoping that Wenger’s reluctance to pay market values doesn’t come into play again here. If it does, and their Premier League challenge fizzles out, their patience with him will be sorely tested.
