22-year-old midfielder undergoes medical at Nottingham Forest - report

Nottingham Forest are in talks to sign Joao Teixeira from Benfica and is undergoing a medical, according to a report.

Football website HITC claims that Forest are in talks to sign the central midfielder from Benfica, who is currently on loan at Wolves.

It is understood that Wolves manager Paul Lambert has deemed the midfielder surplus to requirements and is prepared to let him leave.

The report details that Forest are looking for reinforcements in January and have prioritised a new midfielder.

HITC claim that Teixeira is currently undergoing a medical and is poised to become the club's first January signing.

Teixeira has made 20 appearances this season across all competitions for Wolves, including 17 in the Championship.

The central midfielder has scored two goals and supplied two assists, and has also featured for Portugal Under-21s in the past.

Football Insider verdict:

Forest will be reeling at the loss of talisman Henri Lansbury in January to Aston Villa and will be desperate to replace him. Lansbury's goals from midfield will be a big blow to the side and they find themselves facing a serious relegation battle without him. However, Teixeira is a step in the right direction and could be a good like-for-like replacement. The 22-year-old is an attack-minded midfielder and has experience of English football with Wolves. He certainly has the potential to add some extra quality to the Forest squad and they certainly need some extra replacements.
