Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Leeds United must bring in a striker with "Premier League experience" before the transfer window closes in September.

The former Aston Villa hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, warned the Whites about Patrick Bamford's injury record - insisting he is "most likely to break down again" in the 2022-23 campaign.

Bamford, 28, managed just two goals in nine league outings last term as he struggled with a number of injury problems.

Leeds United

Leeds United have been linked with young French forward Arnaud Kalimuendo this summer - but he is reportedly keen to remain at Paris Saint-Germain and fight for his place.

Joe Gelhardt managed 20 appearances in Bamford's absence last term and has featured prominently for the Whites during pre-season.

Agbonlahor insisted that involvement is a "vote of confidence" in his ability, but warned Jesse Marsch against relying on the former Wigan man.

“It’s a big vote of confidence in Gelhardt, but I feel like they need one more striker,” he told Football Insider's Ewan Kingsbury.

“They’ve obviously already brought in a lot of players who are able to come in and help them, even if they’re not used to the Premier League.

“However, I feel like you can’t rely on Bamford. He’s got his injury problems, and he’s most likely to break down again this season.

“They can’t then rely on Gelhardt, a youngster. They’ve got to bring in a striker with Premier League experience.”

Bamford scored 17 league goals in the 2020-21 campaign - his best-ever return in the top flight.

Leeds United, who finished 17th last term, get their Premier League season underway against Wolves on 6 August.
