Calum Chambers is set to have his medical with Middlesbrough ahead of a season-long move from Arsenal, according to Sky Sports.

Sky Sports claimed on Tuesday morning that the 21-year-old England international defender is set to have his medical in Riverside ahead of joining Aitor Karanka's men for the season.

Karanka has been looking to strengthen his backline since the signing of Nevan Subotic from Borussia Dortmund broke down, and it now seems likely that Chambers will be the man to help the rearguard at the Riverside Stadium.

The Mirror claimed that Hull, Stoke and West Ham had also enquired about Chambers, while there was further interest from clubs in Spain and Italy.

Chambers has slipped down the pecking order at Arsenal, following the emergence of Rob Holding and the imminent arrival of Shkodran Mustafi.

Wenger wants Chambers to gain more experience as a centre-back, and will provide competition for Daniel Ayala, Ben Gibson and Bernando Espinosa. However, the England international will also be an alternative at right-back.

The versatile defender failed to impress throughout the latter stages of last season and his fleeting appearance in this campaign, in the 4-3 defeat at home to Liverpool, but will hope his career is revitalised with a season of first-team action with Middlesbrough.
