Fiorentina are confident of completing the signing of Aston Villa midfielder Carlos Sanchez, according to a report.

Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claimed on his website that Fiorentina are in talks with Villa about landing the Colombia international permanently as well as negotiating with the player over wages.

He now claims that Villa are only interested in a straight sale of the 30-year-old, which is believed to be acceptable to Fiorentina.

The Italian club are increasingly hopeful of clinching a deal for Sanchez, who they signed for Villa for £5million in 2014 from La Liga side Elche.

It is said that former QPR boss Sousa wants Fiorentina to add a midfielder to protect the defence and the club have set their sights on the Colombia international.

Following Villa's relegation he is one of a number of players manager Roberto Di Matteo could sell in order to trim the club's wage bill.
