Alan Hutton has claimed Jan Bednarek could see his Aston Villa loan terminated if Unai Emery can get his "number one" targets in the transfer market.

The former Villa and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 26-year-old won't get "the game time he'll want" after a muted start to life in the Midlands.

Bednarek signed for Aston Villa on a loan-to-buy basis on deadline day (1 September) after being frozen out at Southampton.

He has made just two appearances totalling 90 minutes for Aston Villa this season and is yet to feature under new boss Emery.

The 45-time Poland international, who is currently away at the Qatar World Cup, is receiving a reported £60,000-a-week during his time at Villa Park.

Hutton claimed Bednarek will be heading back to Southampton if Emery gets his man.

He told Football Insider: “If Unai Emery can bring in a centre-back he wants in January, then he’ll let Bednarek go.

“Bednarek was brought in solely because of the injury to Diego Carlos.

“He’s not played much, they’ve reverted to Mings and Konsa – which hasn’t been too bad so far.

“I don’t see him getting the game time he’ll want. Unless injuries crop up.

“He could be someone they move on if they can get their number one targets through the door.”
