Aston Villa are set to lose out to AC Milan in the race to sign Chelsea forward Joao Felix, sources have told Football Insider.

Villa have held talks over a deal for the playmaker and the club's president of football operations Monchi confirmed their interest last week.

But Milan are also in talks to sign Felix after hijacking Villa's move and are confident of agreeing a deadline-day deal.

The Portugal international is said to be in Italy and was watching Sunday's Milan derby at the San Siro as the two teams battled out a 1-1 draw.

The 25-year-old signed a lengthy contract at Stamford Bridge when he joined the club in last summer, with his current deal set until 2030.

Felix has struggled for regular game time under Enzo Maresca, with the majority of his opportunities coming as part of the Chelsea ‘B’ team in the Europa Conference League.

Chelsea are set to lose Joao Felix

Felix has only featured 12 times in the Premier League this season, and he has just seven goals and two assists in all competitions.

TalkSPORT revealed that Felix is “unhappy” at Stamford Bridge, which has pushed him towards a potential January exit.

The former Man United forward will be playing at Villa Park until the end of the season in a bid to get his career back on track.
