Burnley set to agree Morgan Whittaker deal as new bid submitted - sources

Burnley are poised to agree a deal for Plymouth attacker Morgan Whittaker before the transfer window closes, sources have told Football Insider.

Their first offer for the 23-year-old was rejected, but Burnley have returned with an improved bid and a transfer is now expected to go through.

The Clarets are looking to bolster their attacking options this season and have been pursuing Plymouth’s versatile attacker.

Football Insider revealed that Rangers had attempted to sign Whittaker earlier this summer but were unsuccessful.

Burnley are set to win the race to his signature despite numerous other clubs such as Brentford and Wolves being interested in him.

Wayne Rooney’s team have been in a strong negotiating position throughout the summer due to Whittaker’s contract running until 2027.

Whittaker was a standout performer for Plymouth last season, which caught the attention of various clubs.

The winger managed to score 20 goals in 50 games in all competitions during the previous campaign while contributing nine assists.

He has been a big part of Rooney’s plans so far this season, playing every game in the league and scoring once.

Whittaker will bring versatility to Turf Moor, as he can play on either wing or as a number 10.

Even though Burnley are looking to make a late-window addition, they could be raided today.

Football Insider revealed that Newcastle remains interested in James Trafford and have held talks with the Clarets over a deal for the goalkeeper.
