Southampton striker Cameron Archer's stance over a potential loan move to Leeds United has been revealed via Adam Pope and BBC Sport.

Archer only joined the Saints in the summer transfer window, signing from Aston Villa for £15million (Birmingham Live).

The striker has since struggled for goals - missing a costly penalty against Man United early in the campaign - as his side have become rooted to the foot of the Premier League table.

It was reported on Thursday (30 January) that Leeds have seen a loan offer rejected by Southapton for Archer (talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook), although it seems the possibility of a move is not gone yet.

According to an update from Pope, the 23-year-old would be open to the move, with early talks over a deal taking place.

Meanwhile, BBC Sport have stated that other clubs are also interested in Archer, who is looking for a guaranteed starting role if he leaves St Mary's before the window closes on Monday (3 Februrary).

Leeds United could offer Cameron Archer what he wants

Football Insider Verdict

Given the situation with Daniel Farke's squad at the minute, Archer may well get the starting spot he wants if he makes the move to Elland Road.

Patrick Bamford has been touted for an exit from Leeds this month, having struggled for game time throughout much of the season.

The likes of Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph have also struggled to nail down a place in Daniel Farke's starting XI since the start of the campaign.

As a result there is a centre-forward spot at Elland Road that Archer could be able to make his own if he heads to Yorkshire in the final days of the window.

Patrick Bamford has had another tough season with Leeds

The striker has previously shown he can be an asset in the Championship with the likes of Preston and Middlesbrough so could thrive again at that level with Leeds.

If he can replicate his form from those spells in the second-tier, not only could he make a place in Farke's side his own, he could also prove key as the Whites look to seal promotion to the Premier League.
