Campbell: Rangers have 'good chance' of signing Murphy from Newcastle after transfer reveal

The promise of Champions League football means Rangers have a 'good chance' of signing Jacob Murphy this summer.

That's according to former Arsenal and Everton hitman Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the chances of Rangers signing the Newcastle winger.

Rangers made an approach to sign Murphy on loan last summer but a move never materialised as Steve Bruce saw the player as part of his first-team plans. [NUFC]

Campbell claims Rangers presents a more attractive option to Murphy this summer as they're offering Champions League football whereas Newcastle are going nowhere under their current regime.

"There's a good chance for Rangers to get him," Campbell told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.

"He hasn't played that much this season, he's a Premier League player and he'd be quite a big name to go up there.

"To play, to challenge for trophies, to play in the Champions League, hey listen, that's a big stage and it will turn his head.

"Let's face it, Newcastle aren't going anywhere fast are they?"

Murphy, 26, scored his second Premier League goal of the season in Newcastle's 2-1 win over Burnley last weekend.

He has been utilised as an out and out winger and as a makeshift full back by Bruce this season as Newcastle struggled through an injury crisis and an outbreak of coronavirus at their training ground.
