Celtic are in advanced talks about securing treble-winning skipper Scott Brown to a new contract, according to a report.

The Scottish Sun claim Brown is in line to sign a new bumper deal this month after a fresh round of negotiations with the club.

The midfield enforcer's contract runs out at the end of the season but, after leading Celtic to the Treble in 2016-17, it is a priority of Rodgers to tie down the 32-year-old.

The skipper, who also leads Scotland, has been handed a lucrative end-of-season testimonial to mark 10 years at Parkhead.

Rodgers recently hailed Brown, who joined from Hibernian in 2007, as one of the greatest captains in Celtic’s history.

He said: “Scott is someone I want here — that’s for sure. He’s a remarkable player who will go down as one of the greatest captains in the history of this club.

"He’s done it over ten years here but what he did last season puts him alongside the greatest captains.

"He’s still hungry and driven to keep winning and performing. You see the level he’s at.

"He’s turned 32 but is coming to an exciting period in his career. He’ll be around for another few years yet."

Brown has already made 10 appearances for Celtic this season and has been crucial in the team reaching the group stages of the Champions League for a second consecutive season.

The 55-times international has made 426 appearances for the Hoops, scoring 37 goals and supplying 55 assists.

In other Celtic news, Rangers would storm to the SPL title if they had been successful in their deadline-day pursuit of a £45,000-a-week striker.
