Motherwell playmaker David Turnbull has agreed personal terms with Celtic, Football Insider has learned.

The Hoops are closing in on the signing of the 21-year-old just over a year after their previous attempt to land him collapsed at the eleventh hour.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Turnbull has agreed a long-term contract with the Scottish giants after they tabled a £2million-plus offer.

The Scottish champions are confident a deal can be completed in the coming days and he will become their third major summer recruit.

The Hoops have been keeping close tabs on the Scotland Under-21 international since they were forced to pull the plug on his move in June of last year after he failed a medical.

The rising star has begun the season in impressive form and Celtic have seen enough to be convinced he is fully recovered from the knee surgery that ruined his 2019-20 campaign.

Neil Lennon regards Turnbull as a replacement for Rogic and plans to nurture him into a potential star of the SPL.

He penned a 12-month extension to his Motherwell contract in March, but that will not preclude a move and merely served to maintain the player's value.

Turnbull blossomed in 2018-19, scoring 16 goals and supplying seven assists for Motherwell from just 34 matches in all competitions.

He has started all five of their SPL matches this season, scoring in the 2-2 draw against Hibernian.
