Exclusive: Celtic to launch bid to sign EFL defender out of contract in the summer
EXCLUSIVE By Pete O'Rourke
Celtic are eyeing a move for Barnsley right-back Andy Yiadom on a free transfer, Football Insider sources understand.
Yiadom, 26, is out of contract at Barnsley this summer and is unlikely to sign a new deal after turning down the offer of a new contract at Oakwell.
A number of clubs have been chasing Yiadom for several months with Swansea seeing a deal on deadline day last summer falling through because paperwork was not completed in time.
Yiadom is sure to have no shortage of offers as a free agent this summer and now Celtic are ready to join the hunt for the attacking full-back.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Celtic scouts watched Yiadom in action in Tuesday’s Championship clash with Norwich in which he created Barnsley’s goal in the 1-1 draw.
They are now to launch a bid to sign the highly-rated defender.
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has made a new right-back one of his top priorities this summer as he looks to strengthen his backline.
Current right-back Mikael Lustig has struggled for form this season and with just over a year to run on his deal Rodgers is looking for a long-term replacement and Yiadom has emerged on his radar.
