Celtic now in control as Rangers 'can't deal' with title 'pressure' - Glasgow pundit

Frank McAvennie is predicting "one hell of a ride" in the Scottish Premiership title race as Celtic moved within four points of Rangers.

The former Hoops hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims the Gers may not be able to handle the pressure of a title race.

Rangers could only manage a 1-1 draw against Aberdeen on Tuesday (18 January).

This came after Celtic returned to league action with a convincing 2-0 win over Hibs 24 hours earlier.

As a result, the Hoops now sit four points behind their rivals with an Old Firm clash at Parkhead just two weeks away.

"We are in for one hell of a ride," McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

"Rangers have dropped two points so the gap is only four, then there's the Old Firm in a few weeks.

"What a start to the second half of the season, even neutral fans must be happy.

"We have a title race again, I didn't think we would have one for a while.

"It's all to play for in my opinion. We all know how good Rangers are and I'm not writing them off.

"But Celtic look so confident at the moment, we have loads of new players in and they have hit the ground running.

"I think there is a bit of pressure now and Rangers can't deal with that pressure.

"They were brilliant last season but no one was really breathing down their necks.

"Again, I'm not trying to take anything away from them. I'm just glad this season is a much closer race."

Rangers and Celtic face each other on 2 February.

The Hoops are looking to win their first Old Firm clash since September 2019.
