Celtic told to complete three top signings after Maguire reveal - expert

Frank McAvennie

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Celtic have been told they must make three top signings this summer if they want to compete in the Champions League.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie called for the club to sign a new centre-back, left-back and midfielder to progress to a level where they can compete.

He explained that the current squad would not be capable of competing, and he expects them to make a strong go of it after the disappointment of last time.

McAvennie insisted they must strengthen the squad, with an experienced midfield player at the top of his wishlist for the transfer window.

"This squad has to improve. They've been there, seen it, done it, but they are not competing in the Champions League," he told Football Insider.

"Unless they buy two defenders, a centre-half and a left back, and a midfield player that can control the game. An experienced midfield player.

"These three boys can't keep going all the time. You need somebody that's a Scott Brown or a Neil Lennon.

"That's my wishlist.

"We need players to go to Europe. I don't want us to go and win the Champions League but I want us to get fairly on in the tournament.

"Stamp our name down and see how it goes, that's what I want. I expect them to put on a show."
