Alexandre Pato has signed for Chelsea after putting the finishing touches to a loan move on Friday night.

The London club revealed that the Brazil international had signed on loan from Corinthians until the end of the season.

Pato told the Chelsea website: "I am so happy to sign for Chelsea. It is a dream for me. I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know my new team-mates and cannot wait to play.

"I thank Chelsea for their support and hope I can repay this faith to the club and its fans."

Pato arrived in London on a flight from Brazil and underwent a Stamford Bridge medical on Wednesday afternoon after agreeing the terms of a loan transfer until the end of the season.

The confirmation of the  former AC Milan striker's transfer was held up for 24 hours as the two clubs finalised the terms of the loan deal.

Corinthians were keen on a permanent transfer for the 26-year-old but Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink urged the club to assess the fitness and hunger of the player before sanctioning a long-term deal.

Pato has just completed a relatively productive two-year loan spell at Sao Paolo but has fallen out of favour at his parent club, partly due to fitness issues.
