Steve Bruce has confirmed that Aston Villa have terminated Matija Sarkic's loan deal at Wigan due to the goalkeeper's lack of appearances with the League One side. Sarkic, 20, joined the Latics on a season-long deal on deadline day in the summer, but he has only managed to make three first-team appearances since then, leaving Bruce unhappy with the agreement. The young shot-stopper only featured in FA Cup wins against Crawley and Fylde and an EFL Cup win against Middlesbrough's Under-23s. He failed to keep a clean sheet in any of those games, but leaves Wigan having won every game he played in, albeit against lower league opposition and a youth team. Bruce has now confirmed in his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash with Nottingham Forest on Saturday that Sarkic has had his loan deal at Wigan torn up and he is now due back at Villa Park. Sarkic has never made a single senior appearance for Aston Villa since he arrived in the West Midlands from Anderlecht in 2015. He has featured on the bench before in Bruce's side when he was called up to the first-team due to an injury to Mark Bunn last season.
