Celtic teenager Regan Hendry has signed a new three-year contract with the club, it was announced on Thursday night.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder put pen to paper on a new deal at Celtic Park after agreeing terms with the Scottish champions.

Hendry will be looking to push his way into the first-team plans of new manager Brendan Rodgers after an impressive campaign for the club's development side as they went through the season unbeaten on their way to securing the league title.

The teenager has been at the club since the age of 12 and has worked his way up through the youth ranks at the Academy to become one of the brightest prospects in the development side.

The club took to Twitter on Thursday to reveal their delight at the youngster penning a new Celtic deal.

Hendry, who has represented Scotland at Under-17 level, has yet to make his first-team bow but made it clear that his aim is to figure in the senior set-up.

"It shows they rate me highly to give a three-year deal and hopefully I can kick on now prove to them and my family that I have it takes to make it at Celtic," he told the club's website.

“It’s been a good season for me. As a team it couldn’t have went any better. It was obviously disappointing when we went out the Uefa tournament and the Youth Cup but going undefeated in the league was perfect and there is still a lot more to come from me.

“I had a few good games but there were games where I feel I could have done a lot more and hopefully this year I can be more consistent throughout the games, including the Uefa competitions.

“Last year was a good year and hopefully I can get the consistency that will take me up to the first team."

Hendry is highly thought of by the club's academy staff and his performances last season also caught the eye of Ronny Deila and his coaching team.

In other Celtic news, the club are reportedly closing in on the signing of a 23-year-old from Liverpool.
