Charlie Mulgrew has revealed he is close to agreeing a new Celtic contract.

The left-back's current deal is due to expire in the summer and he is in talks about an extension.

Speaking at a media briefing on Sunday, Mulgrew said: "We're discussing things at the moment and I'm optimistic.

"I've always said I'm happy here and things are definitely getting closer."

Mulgrew, who turned 30 earlier this month, is one of Celtic's longest-serving players.

He joined on a free transfer from Aberdeen in 2010 and has gone on to play over 200 matches for the Scottish giants.

The Scotland international has missed big chunks of this season due to injury and Celtic manager Ronny Deila urged him to prove his fitness to earn a new deal.

Fit-again Mulgrew is now back and hopefully of extending his Celtic career into a seventh season.

"I'm fit now, the manager knows I'm fit and what I can do," Mulgrew added. "I've been at Celtic long enough to know what the club's all about, he's seen enough of me to know I'm committed to the club, so we'll see if something can get sorted."
