Hutton: Rangers 'Missed A Trick' not signing Scot int'l after £2m London-club fee agreed
Rangers "missed a trick" not signing QPR striker Lyndon Dykes from Livingston this summer, according to Alan Hutton.
The former Gers and Scotland star, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, has lauded the 25-year-old's performances for both club and country since moving to the London outfit.
As revealed by Football Insider back in August, Rangers pulled out of the race to sign Dykes as QPR agreed a fee worth up to £2million.
The Australia-born hitman has been a regular for the Hoops since his move south, while he was also chosen to lead the line for Scotland in their Euro qualifying play-off win over Serbia.
Hutton has been left raving over Dykes after his outstanding display on the international stage and suggested Rangers could have done with signing a target man like him in the summer.
Asked if Rangers missed a trick not signing the former Livingston man, Hutton told Football Insider: "Yeah, maybe. Yeah, I think that's the type of player Scotland have been missing, that kind of focal point, and they've now got him.
"He's really relishing the challenge of being up there and battling with people and bringing others into play. I've always said that he used to give a lot of teams a lot of problems when he was at Livingston and he's taken that down south and he's now doing it on the international scene.
"So yeah, Rangers have missed a trick with him. I think he could have definitely given them something different to the likes of Morelos and Roofe. Itten possibly is the same type but they've used Itten more in a wider position.
"I think he'd have been a great addition for the Rangers squad, definitely. because he's proven it on a high stage now."
Dykes scored 11 goals in 28 Premiership appearances with Livingston, while he has netted twice in six appearances for Scotland.
Since moving to England, he has found the back of the net three times in nine Championship starts.
