Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie has claimed Ilkay Gundogan will stay at Man City despite interest from Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said both are "huge" clubs but tipped Gundogan to stay at the Etihad.

According to the Sun (3 November), Atletico have joined the list of clubs keeping tabs on the 32-year-old that includes Bayern Munich.

The German international has entered the final year of his contract with the Cityzens and will be free to talk to foreign clubs in January.

McAvennie suggested Gundogan's head might not be turned despite the interest.

"That is two good teams with two good managers," he told Football Insider.

"Simeone is doing a great job. Madrid is like London, it is a big, wonderful footballing city. But so is Munich. I do not think the money would be that different.

"For me, it would be either or because they are both huge clubs. He is a good player, I do not know if Man City will let him go. I think you would want to stay at Man City if you were looking at those three clubs.

"It is great when people want you, it shows you are doing the right thing. It will make him better because it will give him a boost of confidence and he will know he won’t drop down the pecking order if clubs like that are interested in him."
