Shakhtar Donetsk have emphatically decided to reject Everton's advances for manager Paulo Fonseca, according to a report.

Portuguese news outlet A Bola claims that Fonseca, 44, has been tabled a two-and-a-half-year deal by Everton, however it is understood that Ukrainian giants Shakhtar are unwilling to let their manager leave even though his contract expires at he end of the season.

The report states that Fonseca is also in demand at the moment, with an invitation made for him to join a Chinese side with a much more lucrative deal being offered.

Unfortunatley for both Everton and the Chinese club, it is said that Shakhtar president Rinat Akhmetov is not willing to let the Portuguese manager leave and is planning to offer him a new deal in the wake of all this interest.

Fonseca only joined the Miners in May last year and led them to the Ukrainian title in his first full season.

Everton have been on the hunt for a new manager since Ronald Koeman was sacked by the board over five weeks ago and appear to have stepped up their efforts to replace him after suffering two heavy defeats last week.

Football Insider Verdict

Foseca would be a risky man to hire for Everton due to his relative inexperience. They need someone who can come and grab the squad by the scruff of it's neck and get them playing again. At the moment Everton are underperforming by quite a lot. They have the players that possess the quality, but right now they're lacking leadership and direction. Sam Allardyce is really the only man in the running who sees to have that sort of thing in his locker. Relegation is unthinkable for the Toffees so they first need to stabilise and build from there. The ex-England boss isn't the attractive option like Fonseca may be, but he is the one that is needed.
