Sources: Everton open talks over 'huge' Anthony Gordon deal after Newcastle bid
Everton have opened talks with Anthony Gordon over a new contract after rejecting Newcastle United interest, sources have told Football Insider.
The Merseysiders have made it a priority to keep hold of the winger, 21, after selling Richarlison to Tottenham in a £50million-plus deal.
Football Insider broke the news on 6 July that Newcastle offered £35m for Gordon after identifying him as a top talent with the potential to develop under Eddie Howe.
Everton knocked that back and are now working on a deal to extend the contract of the rising star, who made such a big impact last season.
Negotiations are underway over a deal that would extend Gordon's contract as well as provide him with a "huge" pay rise, the sources explained.
There has been extensive interest in the Liverpool-born youngster, with Tottenham previously linked with a double deal involving him and Richarlison.
Other Premier League and European clubs have also enquired about Gordon.
The Merseyside outfit are keen to hold firm over keeping an academy product who has risen through the ranks to establish himself in the first team.
Gordon played an integral role in the Merseysiders staving off relegation last season.
He started 25 Premier League matches and his 40 appearances in all competitions yielded four goals and three assists.
Everton are working on adding to the free transfer capture of James Tarkowski after the sale of Richarlison.
The potential sale of Gordon would lead to further questions about the competency of the Farhad Moshiri regime.
